The Air Nomad caves are an ancient cave system used by the Air Nomads on a mountainside near the Northern Air Temple, in the Land of Fire. They were used by the Air Nomads to meditate and contemplate the mysteries of life in the universe. By 105 AG , it was taken over by the Red Lotus to imprison their enemies and hold Naruto Uzumaki before attempting to kill him during the Avatar State.
History[]
After the Red Lotus captured the monks and nuns at the Northern Air Temple, they sent them to the Air Nomad caves for them to be kept as prisoners, where they were guarded by numerous Red Lotus sentries. After Zaheer defeated Naruto Uzumaki, he tied him up in chains at the hideout's sanctuary. Kai, who managed to escape his capture, found the caves and followed the Red Lotus on his flying bison, Lefty. He then led Team Kakashi, Team Guy, Tenzin, and Suyin Beifong to the hideout, where they were able to kill the Red Lotus sentries.
Inside the cave prisons, Zaheer explained to a weakened Naruto he planned to end both the Avatar Cycle and the Nine-Tails, and ordered a Red Lotus shinobi to give Naruto the poison. Once the poison was in his body, Naruto's chi levels imploded, leading him to awaken both his Avatar State and Jinchuriki form, which, once proven too much to Zaheer, allowed Naruto to escape from Ming-Hua and Ghazan. Zaheer narrowly escaped with his life, but a bloodlusted Naruto chased after him. Kakashi Hatake, Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha arrived in time to prevent Ming-Hua and Ghazan from following the two, and were able to defeat the Red Lotus members. Ghazan, refusing to give himself in to be imprisioned at Konohagakure, brought the caves down using his Seismic Overture Technique, killing himself in the process.
