Desaad was the personal servant and emissary of the mad titan Darkseid, who rules the world of Apokolips. Under Thanos' command, Desaad provided Loki with the Parademons army to conquer Earth and retrieve the Tesseract, one of the Infinity Stones.

Desaad was born and raised in Apokolips and through his manipulations managed to slowly rise through Darkseid's ranks. When Loki fell deep into the wormhole created by the destruction of the Bifrost, he was saved by Desaad, whom in trade demanded Ares' help in Darkseid's campaign to obtaining parts of the Infinity Stones.
