Hanzo Hazashi was originally the son of the Grandmaster of the Shirai Ryu, a clan of Shinobi that have been rivals to the Lin Kuei for centuries. However, the Lin Kuei warrior Bi-Han supposedly lead an attack on the Shirai Ryu, an attack which left Hanzo as the sole survivor. Afterwards, Hanzo went to challenge Bi-Han in combat, a battle which ended with Hanzo's death. However, the necromancer Quan Chi resurrected Hanzo as Scorpion, a wraith of the Netherrealm. Afterwards, Scorpion found Bi-Han, now going by the name Sub-Zero, and executed him out of vengeful rage. However, afterwards, Bi-Han's brother, Kuai Liang took on the identity of Sub-Zero, and with his friends Smoke, Goku, and Naruto found Scorpion, and they all learned that the true attacker of the Shirai Ryu was Quan Chi himself, who simply wanted Scorpion for his power. Scorpion then broke free of Quan Chi and joined the Z Fighters, with whom he battled against Quan Chi, Shinnok, and Majin Buu.
