Captain Mar-Vell is the current leader and former xenobiologist of the Kree Empire on Earth under the fake alias of Doctor Walter Lawson, where he worked alongside the human Carol Danvers for years, and they developed a romantic relationship. After his cover on Earth was broken and a Kree arrived on the planet searching for a lone Thaganarian, it killed Carol, and Vell was accidentally hit, releasing his DNA on the late Danvers, who returned to life with Kree powers and abilities.
